What is a naturopathic doctor?
Naturopathic Doctors treat their patients- not just their conditions. By focusing on the cause of the illness, rather than only treating the symptoms, naturopaths work to establish a treatment plan that restores balance and well being.
Naturopathic training
Naturopathic doctors train similiar to MDs and DOs. They attend a four year undergraduate program before applying to an accredited naturopathic medical school. The doctorate program is a rigorous 4-5 years of study.
During the program, the student takes classes in basic sciences such as anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, pharmacology, biochemistry, immunology, histology, microbiology and pathology. The student also takes several naturopathic classes including nutrition, botanicals, manipulations, hydrotherapy, homeopathy. Additional training can be obtained in naturopathic obstetrics.
The student enters clinic in their second year. By the time they graduate, this student treats close to 1000 patients under the supervision of licensed naturopathic doctors.
